You can use Ctrl+MouseWheel for zooming

Direction keys, MouseWheel and Shift+MouseWheel are for moving.
Ctrl+MouseWheel is for zooming.

I guess like many users and esp GOTD trialers I've posted somewhat hastily and without reading help files. (At least I recognized there was a zoom :)).
